It was a tremendous honor recently to co-facilitate The Leadership Challenge® workshop to a group of inspiring leaders from Head Starts across Missouri! My co-facilitator was John Thomas, a master keynote speaker, certified facilitator and coach of The Leadership Challenge® and on staff at Washington University. We were supported by Missouri Head Start Association, Wiley Publishing, iLead Consulting & Training and Healthy Blue.

Each participant had the opportunity to learn from 360 feedback from colleagues, direct reports, managers and community leaders on the frequency with which those individuals see the participant exhibiting the key leadership behaviors that identify them as exemplary leaders.  As well, each participant had the opportunity to dig deep and get enhanced clarity on their values, their vision and their philosophy of leadership.

The Harvard Business Review reports that the majority of individuals are in leadership roles an average of ten years before receiving any formalized leadership training.  We must do better.  The ability of our organizations to function optimally and people to excel in their work is so intimately tied to the leader’s ability to lead and – NEWS FLASH! – Leadership is a teachable skill set!!
